Serpiente Negra: Reimagining Storytelling Through AI

There are ideas that wait for the right moment.

Serpiente de Negra is one of them.

What began in 2021 as an ambitious live-action series is now evolving into something far more expansive: an exploration of storytelling powered by artificial intelligence. Today, through our creative lab, we are finally bringing this vision to life.

The Origin of the Story

Serpiente Negra is a fictional series inspired by the legacy of the ancient Maya civilization. Based in Tulum, a place where history and nature coexist, we felt a natural responsibility to explore and reinterpret the knowledge, symbolism, and atmosphere that shaped the pre-Columbian world across southeastern Mexico and Guatemala.

The series is structured into 10 episodes, each set in a different era of Maya culture. It is not a historical reconstruction, but a narrative universe: one that draws from mythology, ritual, and ancestral consciousness to build a cinematic experience rooted in identity and imagination.

A Project on Hold

Originally conceived as a traditional production, Serpiente Negra faced a familiar challenge: scale.

The level of detail, historical depth, and cinematic ambition required significant resources. Production costs were high. Access to locations, talent, and infrastructure added layers of complexity. Like many visionary projects, it was paused, waiting for the right tools to catch up with the idea.

For over two years, it remained on the shelf.

2026: The Shift

With the evolution of AI-driven visualization tools, everything changed.

What once required months of pre-production, large crews, and substantial budgets can now begin with a prompt, a reference, and a clear creative direction. AI has not replaced the creative process, it has accelerated it, expanded it, and made it more accessible.

Through this new approach, we developed the first trailer of Serpiente Negra: the introduction to the new universe: in just three weeks.

What previously demanded thousands of dollars and extensive production timelines became an agile, research-driven, and deeply creative process.

A New Creative Workflow

This project lives inside our creative lab.

It allows us to:

  • Design characters from the ground up

  • Define art direction with precision

  • Build cinematic environments through AI prompting

  • Experiment with narrative tone and visual language

Instead of focusing on large-scale filming logistics, we are now able to invest our time in what truly shapes the experience: atmosphere, sound design, music, and post-production.

Learning Through Experimentation

The first iteration of Serpiente Negra was developed using accessible, mid-level tools. This was intentional.

By working within these parameters, our team was able to:

  • Understand the strengths and limitations of current technologies

  • Refine workflows for consistency and quality

  • Build a foundation for scaling into higher-end productions

This approach transforms experimentation into strategy. It opens the door to applying these learnings into commercial projects with clarity and control.

Beyond the Series

At its core, Serpiente Negra is more than a creative project: it is a research platform.

As a production, marketing, and advertising company, we see this as an opportunity to expand what we can offer to our partners and clients. The same tools and processes used to build fictional worlds can be adapted to:

  • Brand storytelling

  • Concept development

  • Visual campaigns

  • Experiential narratives

This is where innovation becomes tangible.

The Path Forward

We are still at the beginning.

What started as an idea rooted in cultural exploration has evolved into a new way of producing, thinking, and creating. Serpiente Negra is not only about revisiting the past: it is about redefining the future of storytelling. And this time, the project is no longer on hold.

Episode I: Serpiente Negra

Set in the time of the Alliance of Mayapán

The first chapter of Serpiente Negra unfolds during the era of the League of Mayapan, a fragile and ultimately failed attempt to unify the great Maya city-states into a single, enduring power.

This moment in history becomes the foundation for a fictional narrative shaped by tension, ambition, and spiritual conflict. Through Serpiente Negra, we explore a world where alliances are built on shifting ground, where power is negotiated between rulers and unseen forces, and where the line between myth and reality dissolves into a darker, more symbolic dimension.

Rather than retelling history, the episode interprets it. It draws from the political instability of the time and transforms it into a cinematic drama that reflects the deeper questions of unity, control, and destiny within a civilization at its peak, yet on the edge of fragmentation.

The intro of Serpiente Negra was developed as a creative experiment within the Hypha Inc. Lab. It marks a key milestone in our ongoing AI research, where storytelling, visual direction, and emerging technologies converge. By leveraging accessible AI tools, we were able to conceptualize characters, environments, and tone in a matter of weeks, building a rich, atmospheric entry point into the series without the traditional constraints of production.

This process is not only about efficiency. It is about discovery.

Each frame becomes a test. Each sequence, a question: how far can we push narrative, aesthetics, and emotion through artificial intelligence?

Serpiente Negra is our first answer. And only the beginning...
